Our Work

What do we do

Short answer. Everything we can. Trying to pin down exactly what we do and are hoping to do in the future isn’t easy. Originally a big bit of the work Dynamic Woods did centered around education and engagement with the local community. Then about 5 yeas ago Dynamic Woods changed focus and has primarily acted as a funding body for small grants for local projects.

2023 turned into a bit of a relaunch into running more projects ourselves and trying to use the resources we have to benefit the people and natural landscape of Scotland. We are still working out all of the different ways we can do this, but they center on enhancing biodiversity, reducing our impact of people on the planet, educating and engaging with our local community, and working to develop a sustainable timber industry in Scotland.

  • Woodland Management and Rewilding

We are very lucky to be caretakers of such a beautiful part of Scotland and want to make sure it stays that way. The long term vision of Dynamic Woods for Inzievar is to create a diverse native woodland teaming with life and character, creating a haven for biodiversity and a special place for people to come and immerse themselves in nature.

We try and let nature take charge at Inzievar, relying on natural generation to primarily determine the canopy, only planting key species like Aspen where we have removed non-natives like Spruce, as well as removing invasive species like rhododendron.

We are a proud member of the Northwoods Rewilding Network, a group of Scottish landowners aiming to put nature first.

  • Education

We want to do our part to educate people about climate change, forestry, saw milling, and ecology. We partner with organizations like ASHS, Venture Scotland, and local schools for people to come and use the woodland and the onsite classroom or to support them with initiatives elsewhere.

Our work includes classroom based learning as well as practical opportunities in the woodland. With the contribution of volunteers at Inzievar, we have cleared and maintained paths, planted a fruit tree orchard, built a “leaky dam”, planted over 200, and helped remove invasive rhododendron.

If you are interested in running any courses, partnering with us, or volunteering with us then don’t hesitate to get in touch.

    Outreach

Dynamic Woods was originally created around the idea of supporting the community. One of our aims is to use funds from Dynamic Woods to support people and organizations that are making a positive change, both locally and across Scotland.

We do this by providing funding, sharing our expertise, and providing timber for a range of uses. We have worked with and supported a number of local primary and secondary schools; several Scottish Colleges; and a whole range of Scottish charities, community groups and government organisations.

In the future we want to create a funding scheme for third sector organizations to apply to for support for social projects, community projects, and environmental projects across Scotland.

  • Sustainability

We also work with our sister organization Scottish Wood on finding ways to minimise the impact of both organisations on the planet. This includes low carbon transport, renewable energy and reducing waste.

We want to make sure we are practicing what we preach by working towards being a net zero organisation.
